DVD Player in Linux: mount: No Medium Found

Ok, I've spent the past 2 days trying to figure out why my dvd player won't mount dvd's anymore. I have a toshiba laptop dvd player on a Dell SmartStep 200N.

Info that I know:
It will mount data cds and one dvd (Animal House, brand new dvd)
It won't mount other new dvds that I bought and other dvds that I watched recently on my computer.
I tried it in WinXP and got the same results (one dvd will play, others won't)
They are all Reigon 1 dvds, my dvd player is set to region 1.
I have Redhat 9, kernel v. 2.4.30 (updated 2 weeks ago, haven't watched dvd since I updated except for Animal House).

The error I get when trying to mount any dvd is: mount: No Medium Found.
Debug errors are: (from /var/log/message)

Mar 6 15:42:43 palevsky-222-096 kernel: "00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 "

Thanks in advance for any help!!
