Dvd Media wont play

I wanted to make a movie out of some footage taken over the holidays, however when I author the dvd using DVD arch it will play in my comp but not on any dvd player, The same happens when I burn it using Pinnical and nero..... Is there away to get the disk to work on a dvd player?
 
What format are you burning the DVD in? DVD-R? DVD+R? does the DVD Player you're using support those formats?

also what are the video files encoded in?


Are the files ripped from a different disk, or are they from a DV camera straight onto the HDD?
