DVD drive read issue

Hello,

I'm having an issue with my disc drive. Whenever I insert a PC DVD game disc, my system has the hardest time recognizing the game disc. DVD movies read fine. I initially thought my drive was on its way out so I replaced it and that seemed to do the trick. Now I'm seeing the same issue when i tried to install a brand new game (XCOM). Had to eject and reload multiple times to get it to read. Game is installing now but it is seeming to take a while. Although, I am aware of the large install size. Any idea what my issue might be? Should I try a different SATA port? Don't remember if I switched it up when I replaced the drive. Disc 2 is now having the same issue. Can't get it to read. :(

You can buy a brand new DVD Burner for like $20 bucks these days. I had a dodgy one like that I replaced a while ago.

I've already tried that and I'm getting the same effect with the new drive. Could it be another faulty new drive with the same issue? I'm able to rip DVD's just fine.

I have the absolute worst luck with DVD drives/burners.

I went through 4 or 5 before I got one that would work more than once or twice. And I was trying different brands.

I would say you probably got another faulty drive.

I would try a different SATA cable and/or port and see if you're still having issues.

Thanks for all the input everyone. Tried a few things and found out it was the sata port I had it connected to. Had to set the Marvell Storage controller to IDE in BIOS. Then I had to remember to take the disk out before reboot or a nice blue screen presented itself. Installing now. Read disk on first try.

Update: Disk 2 is still not read by the drive. Hmm, wonder if it might be the disk. Another game on DVD liek COD WAW reads fine. Guess I'll try swapping the game out at Target when I get home..
