DVD Drive not detected

This is an MSI laptop (FX603-064) and the DVD drive isn't getting detected.

This is the drive that came with it and it used to work. When I say not getting detected, Windows doesn't seem to see it and it doesn't appear in the BIOS.

I've physically removed and reconnected it and that doesn't seem to help. I also tried a solution that involves a registry key located at 4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318 and that doesn't seem to apply to me.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what the solution could be?
