DVD drive doesn't "see" discs

I bought an I/O Magic Combo CD-RW/DVD drive, and it worked off and on when I first had it. Now when I put a disc in, whether it's a DVD or a CD, the drive doesn't see it. I just recently did a bunch of work on my system to try and get it to recognize it (messed with memory, put HDD and DVD drives on the same IDE chain, different chains, etc) and it still doesn't work.

Is there anything else I can screw around with to try and get it to work (preferably software stuff) that doesn't involve RMA'ing?
