Anyway before I backup my dvds to a blank media - can I save them to my hdd? How would I go about doing this?

Sure can. I would recommend DVD Decrypter for ripping them in any case. Check out doom9.org for some guides if you need them. If you're ripping a single-layer disc, you'll probably want to just use ISO read mode, if it's dual layer you'll probably go for File mode (for recompression or transcoding later, to fit on a blank disc).

Cool I just did that. I have a ~7gig dvd backed up on my hard drive. The file is huge! It has all those _TS files and what not. My question now, how do i burn this onto a blank dvd?

I usually just use DVD xcopy xpress to burn them onto disk. I don't see where i can use it to burn from disk. It just asks me to insert DVD.
=/

Look into DVD Shrink. Same basic results, but you should have more control and input options and no little messages inserted into your backup.
