DVD and CD drives Disapeared! Need HELP!

I was installing some DVD software and I went to open a DVD and both my drives were gone. They power on and show up in boot up fine. I can eject them fine in XP but they are not under MY computer anymore.

I tried restarting - no good
I tried uninstalling the driver under Device Maniger- no good


Anyone Know what I can do???

I KNOW for a fact thats its not power or ide connections but i went ahead and checked them anyway. no fix :(

I went to device maniger and it says this
"Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)"

what should I do?
 
I had a problem similar to this. I suggest doing a parallel install or a reinstall/recovery-repair of windows. That was the only way I could get my drives to come back.
 
If I do that recovery thing will I have to reinstall all my drivers and update windows again?
