I'm thinking about picking up a digital video camera sometime and was curious if anyone had recommendations for sites or forums where I could get a good intro for DV newbies like myself. A basic primer on the types of cameras and formats would be great so I know what I'm looking for. Advice on specific cameras would be nice as well. I don't plan on making a film or anything, just capturing family events, etc and want something with good image quality and features. Basiclly a nice video companion to my digital SLR.
I'm not looking for anything too fancy, no Canon GL2 or anything (would be fun though ), just something small that I could use for fun. From my limited research a miniDV cam will be the best option in my price range i guess. Something that could shoot in the 16:9 aspect ratio would be nice as well, but I don't know if any good cams do that for less than $500-$600.
Thanks,
