I have a question: I had my zalmaan fan for my cpu for about 3 months now, and dust is already forming beneath my fan! It's pretty much layered over the copper. Is there any way to clean it without taking it off my motherboard?

Guessing you have the flower type (7000 or 7700), simply use your finger. Put your finger in between the fins, as far back as you can go (closest to bearings of fan), then move your finger out, while applying some pressure.

You basically want to follow the fins of the fan.

i use q-tips for my zalman, easier to get inbetween the blades than a finger :D

dun forget t3h rubbing alcoh0l. Whoops....I dun thing i wus suppaosed to drsdfisdfnsdink it.....

If you own computers, you should also own an air compressor. Pays for itself after a few uses, as canned "air" is extremely expensive and the tree huggers will protest on your lawn if you use it too much. You can never get rid of that petulie oil stench, so you're really better off with the compressor.

lock the fan rotor and give it a shot of air...

inhale the resulting killer dust bunnies...

Have a buddy do it and tape them coughing like they took a bong hit..

LOL

good times

Use a q-tip with rubbing alcohol or a cleaning brush. Don't use your fingers! If you rub the heatsink with your fingers, it will leave a film of oil on the copper surface of the heatsink.\

copper to air > copper to layer of grease to air ;)

Air coming out of cheap home compressors isn't dry air. I would avoid doing that.
