Hey guys, I wanted to research on effective ways to cut down the amount of dust that I will be getting inside my new rig.

I am building my new rig this coming weekend (back home) and I want to prepare it for the abuse that will come after my Thanksgiving break. I live in a fraternity, so unfortunately, the dust will be plentiful and always around.

The case I have bought for my rig is a Lian-Li PC-V2000B Plus II.

What all can I do in order to prevent dust inside of it (other than a can of air every month or so)? I bet some of you are crafty in this area and have done some sort of ghetto or permanent fix in order to achieve a dust free case too.
 
I've heard you can make dust filters out of various things like used dryer sheets (great idea) or panty hose, but since your whole case is ventilation holes...mmm you've got another problem altogether. ;) Otherwise I'd say put some used dryer sheets on your fan grills but that won't do you much good.
 
walmart sells a little hepa air filter for like 27.00, it does a great job in a small room. At night i crank it on high to give me ambient noise to sleep by... i love the thing

Thanks Verge, I'll check that out. I was googling air purifiers/cleaners... man, they get expensive O_O.
 
I tape a dryer sheet over my fan intakes on the side of my case with masking tape. It certainly traps a lot of dust but I still get significant dust in case. Maybe I should put another sheet over my front intake :\
 
I live in a log home, and seems no matter how much we clean there is always ample dust bunnies.

To combat the dust accumulation in my own PC, I purchased a couple of Thermaltake case fan filters. Got them from my local Radio Shack, of all places!! They are two piece frame. The base screws down with the fan screws. The outer frame holds a thin filter in place. This allows it to be easily removed for cleaning, without opening the case. It can be blown out with canned air, or rinsed in the sink.

It works really well, except that I have to clean it about 1/week... uughh.

At least it's that much less dust getting sucked into my case. :)
 
Have most, or better yet all your fans be intakes. Then, put filters on them. The positive pressure inside the case will blow everything away from the case, and having filters on the intakes will prevent dust from getting in in the first place.

I'll see if that is a viable option with my case when I construct this weekend, thanks for the tip :D

Awesome. I might also make a visit to Radio Shack when I go to Walmart to pick up that air filter device also. But knowing Radio Shack it is probably as overpriced as a BB - my local Radio Shack is a ripoff, what a change from the Radio Shacks of 5-7 years ago.

That's the only solution I heard of before I made this thread :p worked out so so.
