I've got a Thermaltake Tsunami Dream case, the one with no side window, which i'm planning to build a new system into. A friend with this case realised that it has 2 extract fans (incl PSU) to one intake fan, and has apparently improved thermal performance/balance by opening a PCI slot as another intake.

The big question; has anyone ever seen a dust filter that clips into a pci slot, cos my machine is going to be in a bedroom. The case already has nice washable ones on the 120mm front fan, so i'd like to have one on whatever new intake i create. Thoughts?
 
I take my fan filters out of my machines every time I build a new on. I recommend a good monthly cleaning with a Compressed Gas Duster and a vacuum. That has always worked for me. Plus, it will force you to clean your machine so it wont get damaged by dust, particles, etc. Give it a whirl.

I am looking for a nice case with dust filters as well. I have two cats and my current cases are almost as furry as the two little buggers ;) It's be nice to keep that stuff out, or at least clean it easily.
 
I just got the Lian Li PC-7. Dust filters are nice, but most cases it's open heart surgery just to get them out and clean them. Which is a must, often, or it'll start to heat up in there. This case, I could pop the front off and remove the filter in under 10 seconds. Totally worth it.
 
lol, doesn't sound like anyone even mentioned anything similar to an answer to the question. In the past i've had to make my own dust covers using stockings (girl leg things) and i just stretch it over whatever fan intake i have. Im sure you could fashion one for a pci slot too though. another more sly move you might consider is cutting out an 80mm fan from the bottom flooring of your case near the PCI slots that allows more intake, which would be easy to install and cover, and would actually help the cooling quite a bit id bet. only downside to that is you couldn't do it if your case isn't up on feet or if its on a carpet or something. good luck.

The trouble with those filters is that you can have a pretty powerful fan, then stick one of those to it and the air flow seems to reduce by 75%. The other problem is that you really have to clean those out every month too as they get really clogged. So you may as well get some lower power fans, no filter and just air-blast your case out every month.

If you have to filter, then the nylon pantyhose option is the best. Stretch it really tight and it seems to only reduce the airflow by about a third. You still have to clean them out though. Oh and fishnets and really woolly ones dont work! ;)
