Dilemmas, dilemmas...where to ask this question?

I have asked this question under the Gadgets section, but am now thinking it might be more appropriate under Computer Audio even though these are not really used for computer audio (but you never know....).

Specifically I am after the most durable earphones currently on the market, which also provide superior audio quality.

Klipsch and etymotic are always mentioned but there are conflicting reports.

Has anyone had experience with either of these brands? Maybe both? Which is more durable? Which lasted the longest?
I will be use them a lot for running, outdoor activites so they would need to be at least sweat tolerant (not necessarlity sweat resistant) and you gussed it durable.
My sennheisers with one small tug fell apart and my sony in ear (x2) consistently failed after 6 months of use. Pretty disappointing and something I am trying to avoid.

Any recommendations?

Audio quality is important but not the deciding factor as both Kilpsh and Etymotic are by all accounts pefectly capable in this department.

If you know of any other brands, please feel free to chime in! ;)

buy something cheap so when you end up replacing it you aren't paying a lot, like Skullcandy FMJ's (which are fairly durable)

otherwise you're gonna spend hundreds to thousands of dollars on something for stage use, and probably still destroy it with time, why waste the money

I think you should call up your local US Army base, ask for a tank commander and ask him what headphones he's using. They gotta be durable.

Fixed :D

Serious note. I second bob on cheapies. At least you wont feel the pain when you have to replace them.

Yeah. This is an option I have been considering. But I thought to myself surely in the whole world there must be some damn company that makes IEM's for more active people.

With appropriate wiring, build and sound quality of course. ;):D

yeah, they're called in-ear monitors for stage use, they cost $500-$1000/pair and are custom fitted to you, and you can still destroy them using them to work out with, as they aren't designed for the kind of abuse you're subjecting your stuff too (honestly, I've never killed headphones working out, and don't know anyone who has, which tells me you're pretty hard on stuff)

there is no point in buying a $500-$1000 pair of IEMs that you're probably gonna shred in a year or two, when you could just buy a $20 pair of headphones every year for 20-40 years for the same money
