I am a development worker who is likely to spend most of his time traveling and carrying my music, pictures and other info with me through the back alleys of the world. I need an external hard drive that can take that kind of punishment and not start losing sectors at the first sign of trouble.

Are there any solid-state external hard drives that are reasonably priced?
Panasonic makes the toughbook, do they make ToughDrives as well?

Ideally, the drive I am looking for is +80GB and powered by USB alone (no AC adapter needed).

bump.

is there such thing as a hard drive designed for harsher conditions or is that just a fantasy?
