Duplicate Recordings?

I'm new to the HTPC world, been using windows 7 and extenders as a whole home dvr for about a month now and I love it.

One issue, I'm getting duplicate recordings of shows I record for my girls (like Dora and Spongebob)... Reading up it does not seem uncommon, channels, especially Nick seem to be prone to this due to the EPG's I take it. My question is how to handle it? I tried duplicate file finding programs to no avail. Is there some automatic or easy way to remove duplicate dvr recordings from my HTPC?

(Thanks, I thought I posted this already but couldnt find it again in the forums... my apologies if I am doubling down)

In MCE, you can select to have it record only "NEW" shows, anything that's a rerun or "REPEAT" show wont be recorded, however... if the show is no longer being made then it wont record anything since all shows will be marked as "REPEAT"

Yes, as a new user though, nearly everythign I want to record is not "new", recording some older shows and the kids shows as I mentioned, rarely if ever are any of those new, so I must deal with this "bug"....

New and repeat don't always jive though because of the zap2it sometimes doesn't add new or repeat to the listing and it will double record. They best i've found is with new shows tell it to record new only but at also around a certain time.

TSRH

I had many duplicates of fucking Duck Dynasty and Gold Rush because of this.

I just go delete them after the fact.

Ok, after further research and asking on some other forums, I came to a passable solution, thought I would share it here for anyone else reading this...

Its just a script someone has written that you can schedule (mine runs around 3am every day) that scanns recorded tv folder and removes the duplicates for me... it would be better to not have a tuner tied up recording needlessly, but at least now removal of the duplicate is automated...
I'm still all ears for any better solution.
