Duo vs. Quad: straight up

Sold me e8400 for money problems. Next Cpu will be a quad for sure. I had to many slow downs while doing muli-tasking things. Its not the cpu fault, but people say windows runs smooth with the quad. So, im getting the quad =]

I haven't taken the quad core plunge yet because I am waiting on the Nehalem to do a full system build. This time around I am going ultra high end.

Q6600 owner here. I was in this quandry when I upgraded from an Opteron 170 system. It was so worth it to get quad over dual. I haven't found a game that my 3.0GHz quad doesn't run very well. If you just need a quick holdover, duals might be more attractive, but if you have a longer time horizon in mind (six months or longer) a quad is definitely a better deal.
