i was wondering if there is a product you could buy that is a monitor\mouse\keyboard in one system that connects to a server via RJ45, wireless or wired. where users are all on one or a couple servers and just a data input station. the work they are doing doesnt require a pc just a remote KVM in a way with the monitor or just a video connection. the users dont have space for a pc and it just doesnt seem wise to buy a pc when they are just inputing data and the software is so simple they will be connecting to. if you know of anything let me know orif i just made someone rich GL with your invention.

O O O O O O - Users with just KVM type device inputing data

i hope this come out well after i post it but the diagram i hope helps explain what i mean.

The trouble with a KVM type device is that only one person can input data at a time.
It sounds like you want Mobiles and a wireless lan.
Or even some type of PDA and bluetooth.

Luck........ :D

This technology has been around for years(since before PCs). Look in to dummy terminals.

What are you talking about? Dummy terminals are essentiall just a keyboard, video, and mouse, and you can connect several of these to a single server. That sounds like exactly what he needs.

wow that is exactly what i was talking about. but is there something like a setup you can buy that is made for that? or do you have to build them? all i saw in google was how to set them up. thanks for your help!

hmm hmm hmm I'm pretty sure some companies make a ready-made solution for this type of deal but I don't know of any off the top of my head. I'm thinking that dummy terminals are going to make a comeback in the next couple of years because of all the virus/spyware/trojan stuff going on recently. I will look around a bit to see if I can find anything. Do you already have software that you will need to use? Do you require a specific operating system?

well it will be server 2k3 on the server and the software is a simple web based program so that should be easy. thank you again for your help i found a company called wyse but i dont want to jump the gun ( http://www.wyse.com/products/winterm/index.htm here is the link ) if you find anything post it i will keep my eye out.

Does it matter to you what OS the terminals will run? Do the users just need a browser for the web-based app? Check out LTSP.org if so. Wyse solutions are handy for commercial customer support, advice and so on though. Obviously with a commercial price.

Edit: If you do visit LTSP.org you'll probably notice these guys
