I'm looking to get a 120GB SSD for a new build and hold off on pairing with a mechanical hard drive since they're all so expensive right now. I was thinking, when I get a separate mechanical hard drive, do I install video drivers onto the SSD? Audio, motherboard drivers too?too? Or just Windows onto SSD and all drivers onto the regular hard drive?
 
i have a 64GB harddrive. I have Windows7 , ALL of my drivers, and major aps that I use all of the time installed (such as firefox, office 2010).... Every thing else
goes on the mechanical drive.

Drivers themselves are installed into the windows directory so they have to go on the same drive as windows. Some drivers may come with other bits and peices that install as a conventional app but for sanity I would still keep those bits on the same drive as windows.

With a 120GB SSD you should be able to keep most stuff on the SSD. Use the mechanical drive (when you get it) as a data drive and maybe as an install location for lower priority applications (e.g. games you only play occasionally).
 
With a 120 I would install the OS drivers and all, as well as all of my apps to SSD. If you only have a few games installed at a time, I would install them to the SSD as well.

I have a 64 gig SSD for OS and apps, a 256 gig SSD for my Steam folder and any other games, and use 1TB and 2TB head and platter drive as storage for a swapfile (just in case), TV shows, movies, pics, backup images etc.

Considering I have seen just the winsxs folder alone consume over 35 GB on systems running the same install over 3 years time, how long has your OS been on that drive and how much free space do you currently have on it?

Win 7 x64 install is just over a year old and the drive has 21 gigs free.

winsxs folder is at 7 gigs.

I'm guessing that wasn't a Win 7 install though, seeing as how Win 7 is only 2 years old. I don't think the Win 7 version grows as out of control as the Vista one did.
