Can p4 cpu's generally fit either?

The local computer store has a list of varius CPUs they have on sale but only the celeron (478) actually mentions the socket.
 
Not unless there's an adapter that I haven't heard about.

BTW try to avoid Celerons if possible unless you know it won't matter for the computer's intended use.

theres an adapter, most 423 boards can take any chip on a 400fsb (even northwoods) with a BIOS flash
