Dumb question: Should I defrag RAID 0?

Hi...
Need a second opinion from the [H] gang..

I feel kinda sheepish for asking this, but yeah... I'm curious.

I just installed a 2nd 160GB WD SATA on my mobo and I configured a striping RAID 0 between the two drives with a single partition (300gb) - (same model number, but built 2 years apart - hope I dont break anything ) anyways... I did a fresh install of XP on them and was wondering if I should defrag the drives, how and with what software.

Any help and I lurve you. kthx
 
I broke up my RAID array..( too many problems) , But I would defrag that , just as I had a single deive......One thing I noticed though, is it would fragment a lot faster than a single drive.


I use Diskkeeper, but there are many programs out there.
 
Defraging RAID-0 acheive the optimum layout for best RAID-0 performance: The files in line, with the blocks coming from each drive in an equal, "every other" fashion. This will reduce seeks and increase perfromance, the entire goal of defragmenting. Proceed. Also, as others have observed, the Windows defragmenter is pretty basic. There are more powerful third party apps out there, such as Diskkeeper that Crosshairs recommended.
