Dumb Question About Folding...

I was wondering if a person can fold without an internet connection?

I've wondered the same thing. Since I have to go away for awhile, but would like to continue folding anyway.

No such thing as a dumb question from a potential folder.

You can't DC without some sort of internet connection.
The only way to get work units to and from the PC is via the internet.

you can fold without an internet connection, sure, but you won't be able to upload or download Work Units without one...

Yeah, I believe in the new version you can queu up WU's to fold. So the next time you are back at that computer, you could send in your results from all of the units.

If you run timeless work units its possible to cache 10 units.
Its also possible to run 8 different machine id's on one box.
So in theory you could cache 80 work units.

Now timeless Tinkers adverage 37 points per work unit and run at about 2.5 points per hour per Ghz on an AMD box.
So the adverage WU will take around 15 hours to do at 1 Ghz.
So 80 x 15 / 24 = 50 Days.

Now alter time according to the Ghz of the boxen.
And also add a bit more if your running an Intel.
But thats approx the longest you could run before you needed to reconnect.
