This is the first computer I've built, so sorry if this is a stupid question:
I have an ABIT KV8 Pro, and there are about 6 3-pin fan connectors on board, that are all indicated as "Capable of providing power for 6 auxiliary fans". One is dedicated for the CPU fan, which I've already hooked up. The other five are for a chipset fan, a system fan, a three auxiliary fans.
I've installed 2 ventilation fans (on in front, one in the rear) that I have just plugged directly into the standard 4-pin power supply connections.
Are the 3-pin ones on the board for things like extra GPU card fans, or are they meant to control ventilation fans like I have based on temperature or something? Is the way I have it hooked up correct? I imagine the two ventilation fans will run continuously the way I have it. Would modifying the connections and hooking them up to the mobo allow temperature based fan operation?
To further complicate matter, there is a three pin connection from the power supply fan that allows the motherboard to monitor power supply fan speed. It says to connect this to any of the mobo fan connectors (case literature), so that the mobo can monitor. Will it work if I plug this into one of the auxiliary fan connectors, even though they appear to "power" fans, and not monitor?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
