Hey guys,
Been around here for ages but there is such good info I haven't posted in a long time. I need some help, though, because searching is turning up all sorts of info that isn't quite the answer to my dumb question. Here's the situation:
I built an i3 machine which will triple boot OS X, Windows 7 x64, and Ubuntu off an SSD. The system also has a RocketRAID 2640x4 card to which I've attached 3x2TB drives and created a RAID 5 array. I hope to use the array to store my movies and music to stream at 720p/1080p levels through my wired gigabit network.
I've created the array using the controller BIOS with 512b sectors because it sounds like it is better than the 4K performance-wise (they are all 4K drives don't know how this will pan out) and I set it to GPT/GUID instead of MBR.
Here is my question: do I create a partition in Windows, say NTFS, so that it will be recognized in all 3 OSes I plan to use? I think my other box, a NAS, abstracts the filesystem so each OS sees it okay, but I've never thought about the implications of doing this triple boot with a hardware raid controller. Clearly compatibility and performance are considerations. Thank you SO much in advance for any help!!
Mark
