Got my Prelude from Newegg. It replaces a regular X-Fi. It appears there's a hardware problem. The drop down to select speaker configuration is missing and only 2.0/2.1 is available. I uninstalled the Creative drivers, ran driver cleaner, tried various versions of the Auzentech drivers and both available PCI slots. No joy.

Uninstalled the Auzentech drivers, reinstalled Creative drivers and dropped the X-Fi back in and I have 5.1.

OS is Vista Home Premium X64. Speakers are Logitech Z-5500 using the analog connection. I can select any of the speaker configurations on the regular X-Fi no matter how (or if) the speakers are connected.

Any thoughts before I RMA?

Remove the regular X-Fi, completely uninstall the drivers, put Prelude in, instal these drivers.

Are you switching to game mode? In music and entertainment modes I only have the choice for 2.0 as well, but in game mode it shows 5.1.

Thanks. I have removed the X-Fi drivers, run driver cleaner after a reboot and installed the 1221 Auzen drivers. No matter what mode there is no speaker selection available.

I guess I'll RMA the card. At least with Newegg it's painless.

You have to change the # of speakers by right clicking on the speaker icon in the sys tray and select playback devices. Select speakers, then hit configure. This was how I did it in Vista. Do this for all modes. It should stick then.

yah you for vista you have to select speakers thru the Sound control panel. You basically set everything up in the properties there, dont think anything is wrong with your prelude, i have to do the same and im on Vista Business X64. I also have to manually set spdif as default in the sound control panel to use coax/receiver and it doesnt detect headphones being plugged in unlike my Elite Pro did in XP. Everything has to be setup properly in the control panel in vista so its kinda weird.

Edit: Not in properties but go to the sound control panel and hit configure. You setup your speaker stuff in there. Right clicking the speaker icon like Geronimo said will work too. Since I always have to switch from speakers to spdif i usually keep a shortcut of the sound control panel on my desktop. Its annoying really

Thank you all. It works just like Geronimo says. DOH!

There are new drivers available on the official site that now support Dolby Digital live encoding. Not really related to the OP, but Ricey if you install that it puts a thing in your taskbar that you can right click and select enable dolby digital live. When you enable dolby digital live it makes all sounds come out of the SPDIF port in a dolby digital signal for your receiver to process. No more having to go into control panel and manually change where to output. (plus you get 5.1 out of the SPDIF rather than the stereo you got before this new driver)
