Ducting my CPU fan

I have two 80mm fans blowing in from the side of my case, one on top of the other. The top of the top fan is about even with the middle of CPU fan.

I am using a coolermaster 7 so I was thinking about connecting one fan to each side with a duct.

Anyone know weather this mod will lower temps enough to be worth the trouble? Im not sure what materials to use (like will a drier duct work). If someone has tried this before Id like to hear about the results.

itll ensure that the outside air hits the CPU fan. youll see a drop in temp but to get the full effect id say get a new HSF and then duct it in. ducted zalman 7000 Cu = teh fap

I guess theoretically it would lower temps because you’re getting colder air into the jet 7 cooler and getting the hot air out of the case before it can raise your case temps

It will lower your temps, but in turn look like poop. Maybe find something stylish that does the same thing besides a dryer hose.

I dont want it to look like poop thats why I siad i dont know what materials to use.

I thought mabey someone had done it before and they could tell me what they used.

PVC pipe would work well, and if it's thick-walled enough, you could just screw it right to the side panel. Paint it, put LEDS or whatever in it, and it'd look decent.

Iv done alot of work with Ducting and PVC.... Some of it turns out well some of it dosnt... depends on how much time you want to spend :p.... I could make you some plains or ideas... if you would like... (no pics) sorry my other comp is down if i get it working agian ill post some....

Like Tean... was saying you can just have it run straight to the side panel cut a nice whole with a dremel (80mm fan hole) cut the PVC so that when the panel is shut the PVC is FLUSH to it on the inside... (*the time factor*) throw a nice fan grill on... and Wa-La Nice duckting system... and if you have a window kit you can do the same thing... i found some nice PVC like pipe a while back that was all acrylic... forgot the site though... was pretty pricey tho but Nice looking coast money...

Remember when you do this Measure twice cut once... trust me iv made to many mistakes....

Thanks yall. PVC seems to be the best bet. I can mount a fan and cut the PVC to fit flush.

What you can also do to lower the dust inside your case... what i was saying with the fan grill just put a filter under it... that will keep the dust factor down... but no matter what kind of case you have or way you make your case your always going to have dust lol..... Just learn to clean it =X

I am not sure why no one suggested this but, you should use a speaker port. Many of the OEM ducts are modified speaker ports.

Similar to this

You could put a piece of panty hose or something similar at the opening of the duct to help stop some dust without restricting airflow too much. That would help with the dust.

I already have panty hose on all my intakes, but my PSU blew a fuse (and who knows what else) before I had a chance to see any results.

One way to duct is to have air intake on the top of your case, down to the cpu, then have it exhaust out the back.

It would look far better than having it come form the bottom of the case. If you don't have a top blowhole, make one in your 5-1/2 bays and duct it from there. If you wanted, you could duct the PSU while your at it, just to say you did :D

That would leave soooo much air for that vidcard and northbridge...so much cool air :)

Me too, but I am only stuck there because of my temps. I can go much higher if I get good cooling. What are your temps at 2.4? Once I set mine to 2.5 at 1.8ish it gets too hot (52C) and becomes unstable. I will up it more when I get a duct going.
