my friend is building a computer...he has like 2g to spend on it and will build it over like 2 months.

For some reason he likes the idea of dual opertons....I usually give him advice on computer stuff but i dont know jack about dual CPUs....

he games a lot and this is mostly why he is buildng the computer for 2g.

Whats better...a 3500, 3800AMD64 system, or two CPUs?

For gaming--in today's games--an Athlon 64 3800+ or FX-53 would be your friend's best option. There is no game that sucessfully takes advantage of multple threads or processors. An Opteron Model 150 or 250 or 850 would perform as well as the 3800+ or FX-53 simply because these three processors are virtually identical in every way, not because of any dual-processor advantage or anything else. There is simply no justification at this point for multiple processors in a purely gaming PC.

I second that motion. Games are designed for home users, who will typically only have single processor computers. A good video card will be more essential than multiple processors.

Now, in a few years, when AMD and Intel are shipping multi-core systems, then we might see games take advantage of that extra oomph :D
