Dual WD360 Raid-0 crash

Important Info:
Hard Drives: (2) Western Digital Raptor 360's
Motherboard: P4P800-E Deluxe
Raid Controller: Promise

So I went to the Seattle Auto Show Saturday night and came back to find my computer asking me to please insert valid media to boot from or whatever that screen said. While I was gone, something went severly wrong. I tried restarting and my raid controller was complaining at me saying that my raid array was offline. Looking into the raid setup screen, I found that one of my drives was designated as "drive 1" ( or something close to that ) and the other drive was designated as "free". I checked all of my connections, unplugged them, plugged them back in and made sure everything was in its proper place. I tried booting again, same thing. I'm looking for a course of action here, or maybe some feedback on what my next step should be. Thanks.

Have you tried recreating the array? Your information will still be there, just the RAID information has been lost. I hope you did a backup of whatever information was on the array. From what I can gather, you were running a RAID 0 arry huh? RAID0=bad, too risky.
 
Yes, I tried recreating the array already, couldn't do it. I know about the risks of a raid0 array, I only run apps and os on it, except I was in the process of shuffling some files around, which I would really like to recover!

What was the process you used to recreate the array?
 
I wish you all the luck in the word.... I had 2 arrays go south on me....Both of them were 36 GIG Raptor arrays.....Needles to say, I never was able to recover anything from either one.......
Hopefully you have better luck than I did...
I run 2 74 GIG Raptors now.....not in RAID 0 though :)
 
Have you done any diagnostics with the failed drive? Is it detected by the Promise BIOS?
 
Recreating an array by "setting a new one up" will never get your data back. In fact, it completely overwrites it.

Thank you, I am aware of that. I don't have the screen available to me at the moment, but I wasn't trying to define a new array, i believe the option said "rebuild array".

There's nothing to rebuild. It's not like you still have data and parity and can recalculate the array. If one drive failed - well, they call it a RAID-ZERO for a reason.

Well, I'm not convinced that the drive actually failed. If you had read my post completely, I stated that the Promise bios sees both the drives, but designates one of them as "drive 1" and the other as "free"

Can you give me any advice or point me to a program I could use? I've never tried recovering a hard drive before.. I've lost a few, but never really been gung-ho about recovering the data.
 
when my raid went south, as long as you dont reinitalize the drives you data will be there, it turned out i had a broken sata cable, i replaced it, reconstructed my array and poof all my stuff was back

This is what I'm hoping for. I'm going to use the WD disk analyzer program and then go from there. Possibly try the drives on a different controller. I already tried different cables. We'll see if I can come up with anything when I open the case back up this weekend.
