Has anyone used two nVidia cards in a Crossfire motherboard to fold?

I have a Asus Rampage Formula. I have a GTX 280 and a GTX 275, but when I install both cards it won't post, I think. The computer acts like it's loading up and I get a mouse curser after 2 or so minutes, but no windows. Any ideals would greatly help.
Would like to get over 20k ppd!

I have used crossfire mobos to fold with 2 and 3 vid cards. It works fine.

Make sure that crossfire is off (in the bios or with jumpers)

Also, you might get some interesting results by mixing cards like that. Shader count is the same so you might not have a problem......
 
If you are getting a windows cursor, then the thing is posting somewhere (POST stands for power on self test, it's part of all that crap that you see before windows). Methinks you might have the desktop extended and not be using the right monitor output? Maybe? Try switching around inputs on the cards themselves. I think I have had that happen before trying to use DVI adapters and actual DVI mixed and matched all over the place.
 
Also someone correct me if I am wrong, but with a crossfire mobo, as long as you aren't trying to run the cards in SLi, it should work fine. I think all you have to do is extend the desktop using that display adapter (2 should show up when you have 2 cards, possibly 4 since each card has 2 outputs).
 
Problem with that is, everytime I clicked the mouse the system speaker would beep. I'll try again thought.

Have you tried with just one card to see if that works? I hope your KM is usb and not PS/2, only time I've ever had the mouse trigger a system beep was when I had a PS/2 keyboard/mouse backwards.
 
I have this very board running 2 GTX260 core 216s

I've had it working with a:
GTX260 core 192 and a 8800GS
GTX260 core 216 and GTX260 Core 192
as well.

all kinds of shader mixing is good on this board
but you cannot fold with mixed cores ie GT200 and G92 is a no go.
there is no settings in BIOS to disable crossfire (that I have found) and I've never had a problem

sounds like it is POSTing just fine. Looks like windows is starting to load. but locking up on some driver loading. Try holding down F8 and booting to safe mode. Then look for driver conflicts. Try uninstalling nVidia drivers and try again allowing windows to detect both cards while installing the driver.

 
You should be able to do this - you can have multiple seperate GPUs on any kind of mobo if it has the appropriate slots. Disable SLi/Crossfire through the drivers and don't use any kind of SLi or Crossfire bridge between the cards.
 
I have two Bad Axe 2 Crossfire boards, each running 3 GTX260 cards right now. Should work with no issues what so ever.
 
Finally gave up!
Replaced my sons 8600 GTS with the GTX 275.
His gaming is much better and he loves it!

If I have the same problem with the 4 - 8600 GSO I'm about to install in a new system, then things are going to get ugly!

This is the setup I going for

Foxconn A79A-S
AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200
G.SKILL 2GB
CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W
4 - ASUS GeForce 9600 GSO 512MB

Splash over $650 shipped to my house.
 
Just make sure the 9600s have 96 shaders. NV relabled a POS card with fewer shaders a 9600GS as well.
 
I have 7 total people. Need one more! That way I'll have 8 and I can build 2 boxens!
Been working on this for week. Problem is they went up $5.
 
Your going to mow quite a few people with all those cards.
 
The trick is not getting into the top 20. Myself and many others have. It's staying in the top 20 that is the real trick.
 
OK, ordered 5 - 9600 GSO's this morning.
I will merry one of them with my 8800GTS.
Since my 8800GTS has 96 shaders, I assume these will merry perfectly.
Hopefully another deal goes down for another GTX 280 to merry up with my folding 280 in my main computer.
Also, you think a 750watt power suppy could handle the 4 GSO's?

I hope to be close to 50k ppd in a couple weeks! :D :D

A good 750 will have no problem powering those cards.
