I have a computer with sound through it's built in sound card hooked up to a stereo across the room. I also want to hook up some Yamaha speakers with a built in USB sound card. When I hook up the USB speakers it works great, except the other sound card doesn't work. I can select either one in the audio properties in windows 2000, but not both. Is there any way to get sound from both at the same time?

well it depends on the aplication. with pro audio apps you can manually select which output to use (even winamp can).
and override the windows setting to use whatever sound driver you like.

simple things like windows media player can only use windows default settings. does your USB thing have an audio input? if so you can connect a cable from onboard out to USB in and just have it pass thru

Well, WMP is a bad example, because you can actually change that.

It's under Options/Devices/Speakers, then properties.

Most games are a better example, as they will always use the default card in windows. The solution, of course, is to set the default as the one that you want dumb programs to use, and then adjust your more advanced applications as necessary.
