looking at getting a 1920x1200 16:10 24" to run alongside my 20" nec wmgx2 1680x1050 16:9 on a dual dvi video card... ati radeon 5770

will this work because of the different aspect ratios?

i actually have 2 of the nec and 2 video cards to plug in all 3... so im not sure which way to plug things in.. i think the 2nd video card (fx5500 or something.. old pci card) can support the resolution of the 24" by itself, but i would like to use it on the radeon to play games.

You're not asking about eyefinity, but instead using just one of the three monitors for gaming, right? Assuming that none of your monitors use display port, you can plug the 24" and one of the 20" displays into the Radeon. The Radeon will drive the 24" for gaming; the third 20" display would go into your 2nd card.

The different aspect ratios are no problem.

fx5500 sounds like nvidia, so you may have problems getting it working alongside the radeon. I would try plugging all three into the radeon, just make sure to buy a 24" with displayport, or you can try using VGA for your least image-quality-critical monitor. Google "eyefinity vga"

I havent bought the 24" monitor yet. It only comes with dvi and vga and I was thinking of putting that and my 1st 20" on dvi thru the radeon and using the 2nd 20" on dvi thru the fx5500.

I am still contemplating the monitor but I will go ahead and look for the radeon. Thanks!

Win7 will support it. I run a 24" as my primary and a 23" as an extension. You can also go Surround/Crossfire, but it will drop the res on the 24" down to 1080 to match.
