I want to spend very little on a case but I want good cooling and I want to be able to bring it with me places, to and from college basically. Prolly wil lmove 3 times a year but i am running dual opteron's on the:
TYAN S2882UG3NR-D Dual Socket 940 AMD 8131 Extended ATX Server Motherboard
and so I dont know what kind of case i need to buy for it. please ~100 would be perfect thanks

I personally Like the Lian Li's. I have a Tyan K8W dual 940 mobo in my Lian Li PC75. Its a good case.

Just Be warned: WIth "normal" cases, the Power LED connector will not line up with your motherboard. The case has a three pin connector (+V, No Cable, Ground), whereas the motherboard is a two pin connector. If you do decide to get a "normal" case, You will eaither have to
1) Not use the Power LED light
2) try and use a razor blade to split the connector into two pieces (this worked for me)
3) chop off the wire and solder on a two pin connector.
4) What ever else you can think of.

These might not have the Power LED problem, as they were designed for server applications and have been approved for your motherboard.

No, when I say "regular", i mean any normal case which can hold an Extended ATX motherboard from sites like Newegg.

Boy, you should have seen the look on my face when I went to plug in the front case connectors to my Tyan motherboard................... I could'nt belive it

The Tyan pre approved cases are not really for mainstream people, so I would refer to them as "server" cases.

Yea, the Lian Li's are very nice... even if they are at a bit of a price point to other steal cases. It might be big, but its easy to carry around because you can get a good grip on it. Or, you could always just move it in the box it comes with, in its padding (that's what I do when I move from college to home / home to college). (if your not sure what I mean when i say big, this will give you a good idea. the size of the motherboard in it is just funny http://www.hardforum.com/showpost.php?p=1027888670&postcount=1941)

As for cooling, the PC75 is very good. You can run all silent fans and still have very good airflow. I have 6 silent fans, and it keeps it cool.

Tyan's recommended cases are generally one decent case and a pile of crap. And that's putting it kindly. (Hint; Chenbro + Chenbro SCSI Backplane == Disaster Out Of The Box.)
The other ugly part you've got is the 2882's just about impossible to cool. You need at least 160CFM exhaust for 248's and 4 DIMMs if you've got any serious drives.
As far as FPC's, they're the same as everyone else. I should know; I was stupid enough to believe Tyan actually supported their products, and sold several systems with 2882's. (Every last one has failed due to silicon defect.) You're not going to get anything cheap or light in an EATX these days. I would recommend the Enermax XPS981, pack it with fans, and push it around on the wheels. The V1200 might get the job done, but I would be most concerned about heat buildup around the Broadcom - which is where they usually fail.
 
it seems so pointless to have such a big case for a regular or maybe a slightly larger mobo. can i just buy a mobo tray and put it into a smaller lian li or something? any modding i can do to get this to fit. i can get mobo trays from older cases
