Is there any motherboard that would support this? I have a customer that wants to be able to burn 3 dvd projects at a time on one computer.
 
I don't know about that, but I'm not sure. Again not certain about this, but, wouldn't dual P4's and the mobo be more than just making three cheap computers? :D
 
well, this comp also needs to capture fast and have a good capture. The capture card they want is around 500$. Space is an issue also
 
I havent found any p4 duallies but I know there is Xeons that are p4 speeds ;)
 
that is what i was thinking for an alternative. You guys think this setup will burn 3 dvds at the same time ?

I like your suggestion sounds like a very fast and stable system and with 2 xeons and 3gigs it should multitask very well. What program is he sending the data from the capture card to or is it going to be feed right to the dved burners? DO they make scsi dvd burners? I have always been a fan of mulitple scsi cd burners.

You could also get a standalone tower burner and just have him capture one dvd. the standalone towers are nice.
 
SMP enabled P4 are called Xeon's.

ok, ill search for scsi burners. Its not going directly from capture to burner it will be stored on a hdd. i was also thinking about scsi or raid for the hdds. This system will probably be watercooled also. I love building these kinds of systems for customers :)
 
Yeah - dual Xeons is the way to go, however, I don't support going with Geil ram since this is for a system where stability is paramount. I would only use Mushkin, Corsair, Kingston, and Crucial in this situation. Also, if the programs being run are not optimized for the P4 architecture, go with Opterons.
 
Yeah, I'd get Opterons, SCSI DVD-burners, and RAID (either SATA or SCSI). I'd see the bottleneck being any of (a) memory bus (ergo Opteron); (b) disk speed (ergo RAID); or (c) Disk/burner bus (ergo SATA/SCSI). No idea which (ones) it'll actually be, so safest bet is to try and eliminate them all.
