I just bought these Cosair XMS 2 x 512 = 1gig Dual Channel PC3200 DDR400 memory sticks. Heres the ones i got

http://www.tigertv.com/applications...s.asp?EdpNo=618631&Sku=C13-5102 PT&CatId=1082

I have this mobo that does support 800FSB and Dual Channel DDR400 Ram...this is the mobo i got...

http://www.biostar.com.tw/products/mainboard/board.php3?name=P4TSV

Now my question is how do i know im running in true dual channel mode and not single channel? WinXp reports 1 gig of ram on system info. In my bios i can't find anywhere where it says dual channel enabled or anything like that it does report 1024mb ram though....according to my mobo i saw the dual channel diagram and i put 1 stick on a blue and the other stick on the other blue (different groupings) not side by side (white+blue). Is this correct or am i reading the diagram wrong?

Further system specs on my sig...

Both sticks in blue

OR

Both sticks in white

OR

FILL ALL THE SLOTS

for Dual Channel Mode... It auto Enables it this way

Thanks thats what i thought too and that is how i have it configured right now...i wish there was a way to tell im running it dual channel mode.

n00b question....does the RAM itself have to support Dual channel? or is it entirely mobo dependant?

I really hope the search function comes back soon, so we don't have the same questions over and over.

No, dual channel is determined by the board and not the memory. Dual channel "kits" are just regular memory that's prestested and guaranteed to work.

The only time you would really wanna buy dual channel "kits" is if you can get them cheaper then two single sticks or if you wanna make sure you get two sticks that use the same chips. Sometimes when you buy two individual sticks you could come up with one using CH-5 and the other using BH-5 for example. So if your an overclocker its probably best to pick a dual channel kit so you for sure get matched pairs that work in dual channel mode and have the same chips.

I looked at the Hardocp front page a minute ago and thought they had fixed it lol.

You Spoke, We Listened
You guys told us our site search engine blew goats, so we have totally revamped the [H] Search just for you. Just don't bring up the fact that you started telling us that in 2001. Now go pound it like you would that old gf that was so hot but such a beezotch and see if you can break it.

That stupid thing still doesn't work worth a crap or maybe im just not using it right but every time i do a search for old review articles posted using names like Logitech and Corsair, all i get is a bazillion results that dont even have those words listed.

gosh, dude, sorry, it's not like it's a hot thread or anything, it was dying

not that I don't want the search feature back or anything...

I don't know why soo many "hardcore" members here get soo angry and offended by someone asking same questions...chill out its just a danm forum!

thanks, I agree... it would surely not be used so much if there was no two of the same question be asked

That's the search for the HardOCP section of the site. I don't recall that ever turning up something I was looking for. What I meant in my previous posts was the Forum search.

The reason why us "Hardcore members" get pissed about seeing the same questions over and over is because we assume most people read a lot of the threads. And to answer Munka's thought, there often is the SAME question asked a few times and a simple scrolling down of the window will reveal the same questions. Try it sometime. Scroll down on the first page of a forum section....you'll see a few threads of the same topics.

Also, the main reason most people read the site often, is to learn. So, you assume people have read the same questions a million times. That's why often you will see a sticky answering a question, because it's asked over and over again. More threads, mean slower forums.

slower forum? ...yeah....right! i just understand you are tired of people asking the same questions but think about why does it bother you THAT much? i don't get it just keep scrolling don't bitch moan about it...if they don't want to read they won't! they will post until they get an answer... just DON"T ANSWER or even look at their post...that will make them go search and read....

Seriously...do you have any experience with databases and how they work? Honestly, man, don't flame in areas your not sure of. Believe it or not, these forums comprise one large database. The more records that are created and are "open" for editing, the slower a database performs.

im not an idiot dj  im just saying its not gonna feel that MUCH slower because of 1 or 10 topics of the same...i don't notice a slowdown one bit. and i have been on this forum for a while way before i ever even registered.

I understand...didn't mean to have it escalate to anything. Just wishing the forums could stay neat and lean, like a Forum on Atkins.
