dual or quad core gpu ?? why not ?

why have ati not made dual or quad ? hell that would bring crossfire and sli useless. 1 card with 2 or 4 gpu like cores 2 duo ???
Now i know i think ati is working on a cpu/gpu but um thoughts please.
Any thoughts
 
GPUs are already using a large number of cores. That's how they've been designed for some time.

The dual core method you talk of would be similar to SLI/Crossfire and you can only render ahead so many frames before you start to see problems.
