I'm thinknig about building a dual opteron server using the opteron 1.6ghz and the tyan s2875.

There was some talk about the possibility of AMD changing the pin count on these cpus? Thanks in advance for any advice.

I'm planning to have this as my main machine for 3-4 years. What else should I consider?

Wow... Going from an 1800+ to dual opterons... That will be like going from a tricycle to an F16...

... No offence ment to your current setup :)

If I understand your question correctly I think you need not worry. The socket change is for the FX and A64 processors only to the best of my knowledge. :)

I went from Dual 1600+ on a K7X to Dual Opteron240 on the Tiger K8W

I have been pleased so far with my purchase. And incase any one is wondering, the Venus 12+ heatsinks will fit on the K8W though they will be *very* close together, and encroching on any wide video cards that push towards the CPU's. Other wise the only clearance concern is towards the IO Connectors. I had a 80MM Fan that didn't have enough clearance where it was and had to remove it.

I have not heard of any pincount changes.

They will not change server SMP type procs any time soon. 940 is like the 603 for intel.

hey guys, i know you can run 2 way processors on a single opteron mobo.. which is the best/nice Opteron mobo for OP240? MSI KT8 Master1 or SK8N/SK8V?

I wanna run a mass e-mail server on it

thanks.
