Dual Opteron 2380 vs Corei7 920

I was curious,

I wanted to see how well a Dual AMD Opteron 2380 2.5GHz would fare against my overclocked Core i7 rig. I challenged my buddy to a duel (he is an AMD fan and particularly an Opteron fan) to see if he could beat my Core i7 rig with Dual Opterons (he was certain that he could).

The Operon rig Specs (i7 in my sig):

Supermicro H8DAE-2 Motherboard
2x AMD Opteron 2380 2.5GHz (Shanghai)
16GB PC2-6400 DDR2 RAM (8GB Dual Channel per CPU)
2x eVGA GeForce 9800GX2 512MB SLI

I also added results from my Q9550 to the mix

(I would ignore the 2D, 3D, Disk Mark and CD Mark results)

What about against a stock i7 920? Your running the opterons stock, so it would be a fair comparison..

Given you have a 1.54 GHz OC on your CPU, it's not even close to a apple-apple non OC comparison. I'd certainly add a non-OC bench or your i7 system to the list.

We all know the the i7 will win if overclocked.

How about benchmarks with real applications like 3d rendering, kernel compile, database querying...etc?

yeah, i'd be interested in stock v stock comparisons to...i'm not even going to ask for air cooling lol
