dual monitors, now what?

well i have 2 monitors hooked up to my video card and both have the same picture untill after the windows boot. then one goes off.

i have seen people have two monitors and i'm just asking what software would i need? or settings or somthing.

i want it to be wide screen type thing not just the same pic on bothe monitors

what video card, if its a geforce, I believe u cant do this, with any ati i have had I was able to do it with multiple at the same time
 
Knowing if you have an ATI or a NVidia could make a difference, however you should be able to right click on the desktop, go to properties, click the settings tab and there should be some settings around there to play with. On my nVidia card, I can click "Advanced" and the "Geforce ti4200 (or model of your card)" tab, and there are settings for multi displays, and I can disable cloning, etc.
 
once you got it set up correctly, use ultramon, you'll love it.
 
You have to enable the second display in windows. Go to video control panel > advanced, select the second screen, and there should be a checkbox to the effect of "extend desktop on to this screen". Dual monitors kick ass, btw. Working with a single monitor just drives me crazy.
 
Does having duel moniters eat up more resources for your video card?
How can i turn a moniter into like a just a tv? i have the hydravision full version

Well, yes, but not enough to matter. I think most of the performance hit I felt when I went to dual monitors came from ALWAYS having Trillian, Outlook, and Winamp open. And by always, I mean they're in my Startup folder. :p

By hit, I mean something like 3%-5%. Specs are in my sig.

As for full-screen overlay, nView calls it Full Screen Overlay. I think HydraVision calls it Full Screen Theater or something along those lines. You want it to automatically take over a screen for full-screen video whenever a video overlay is initiallized, right?
 
I have 2 monitors hooked to my 9700 pro and I just installed hydravision but it doesn't look like it has any features I would use.

But how can I have a different desktop background on each monitor under XP?

My complaint as well...just use hydravision.
