Dual LCD's - vs Plasma?

I only look into hardware every couple years to plan my new PC's.... Monitors once every 'never'... so I'm stuck.

I have a 21" Dell CRT - Ol' fatboy. I am going to build a new topped out PC as soon as the new stuff is released w/in the next couple of months.

I need new screen technology. The flat LCD's look nice, but seem to have a lot of issues with dead pixels (that would annoy me highly). What is the issue with Plasma monitors? Do they suck, or are they just too high priced to be popular?

I mainly use my PC for gaming, or occasional DVD's. But, it's a generall all purpose - meaning I spend all day in front of it doing everything, basically. With money not being the object - would it be better to go with 2 21" LCD's, or a 42" Plasma (Sony's look nice)

Thanks for the basic question -- once I decide on which to look at, i'll have more specific ones..lol

You do not want a plasma monitor. They are for tvs, not for pcs. First off, you would have to buy a super expensive plasma. They $2500 plasmas have the same screen resolution as your $100 20" tv. In other words, they suck. You would have to pay over 4-5k for a good hidef set. Then of course you get in the problem that your pc is mostly showing static images, poof you just burnt in your plasma. So no you have your start bar permanently burnt on your display. Finally, to have the 42 plasma be the right size you would have to sit atleast 6ft back from it. I highly doubt plasma will ever be technology suitable for monitors. OLEDS are much better, but of course they aren't out yet.

Personally I would go with dual crts, but if you have to have dual lcds, get the fp2001 but realize it has some flaws. You can either return them until you get a perfect one. Which can take many returns, or you just accept a few dead pixels and bad backlighting on a $800 monitor.

what are OLEDs? And when is an ETA for them? Also, is it worth waiting for instead of buying a 2001fp now?

My 42" HD plasma works just fine as a monitor.

Do you use it all the time? He said he wanted a monitor he can use throughout the entire day. Sure they make good monitors for video games and such, but I wouldn't want to look at one all day long reading email and writing up documents. They are not for fulltime use.

No, I don't. Then again, I wouldn't spend $6000 (the price of my plasma) for a computer monitor, either.
