I have a Western Digitial 40 GB hard drive; partitioned into two (30 GB and 8 GB); i had to get rid of my 350GB WD bc of a malfunction. I jus ordered a 250GB WD hard drive also, plugged it in, and for some reason.....for about 30 mintues after boot the drive shows it is attached. However, after that, it disappears. I am unable to run any programs on it. Does anyone know why the drive disappears like that? How can I fix that? Thanks in advance....

If you mean it disappears in Windows then it means it's not partioned or Formatted. Pop in a Windows XP CD and format it and then exit the Windows XP Dos install interface and restart. Once you've loaded back into windows it should show up.

you don't need the XP CD to format a drive
click Start, point to Run, type diskmgmt.msc, and then click OK
