Dual display stands?

I've always wanted to get a dual monitor set up going for my PC, but due to some fortunate circumstances, I inherited a some-what broken HP w1907 monitor that I will be using as a second display next to my Asus VH222H.

Now, I also have a set of Klipsh Promedia 2.1s, and desk space is going to be super tight. I can hardly fit one monitor and both speakers on top right now...

I'm looking for recommendations for a new set up. I'd prefer to stay away from wall-mounting, but am open to it. I was going through some monitor stands via Best Buy (have $50 GC there) but I wasn't sure if one particular model was better than the other. I believe both monitors support VESA mounting...

Any thoughts? Thanks!

Ever thought of vertically stacking the monitors? That way it doesn't take any more desk space than you are using now.

I'm open to both ideas. It's just hard to visualize. I think I'd still want a mounting system if I were to do vertical...

I was looking at a few horizontal stands from Best Buy, ranging from $75 - $100. Not much of a selection for vertical stands though. I was looking at these two:

Planar:

Ergotron:

The only problem with horizontal stands is that unless your speakers are very small and can fit underneath the gap between the monitor and desk the side-by-side monitors won't fit on a smaller desk. I've seen people actually mount their speakers *ABOVE* their monitors to avoid the problem (thankfully LCD/LED monitor are immune to magnetic interference when using digital signaling). You might want to think about that, if you could put a shelf above your monitors and mount your speakers there you'd be good. Of course, the simplest solution would be to buy a pair of headphones :D

You could get a monitor stand with enough spots so that you can mount your speakers on it. That is what I did. Then you can fully adjust the speaker's tilt and rotation which is nice.
