Dual-Display eBook Reader Project

actually, I disagree. One of the reasons I like ereaders is that they aren't built like a regular bound book. They can be held easily in one hand. I may have missed some of the insight because I had to watch the vid with no sound, but I see this as a step in the wrong direction, myself.

I agree with prtzlboy. I find that I read much faster with my kindle than I do with a traditional book because I'm not scanning as much area to read the text. It's also MUCH easier to hold in a number of different sitting positions - especially when compared to a large hardcover.

The only positive I see is an increased display area that could be usefull for scanning large amounts of information - such as in a newspaper format. But in all honesty - that format has a lot of room for improvement anyways - see: RSS.

Besides - LCD = Yuck.

In my opinion, eBooks should not be emulating real books. What's the point? If I wanted to read a book, then I'd read a real book. An electronic version made to mimic the 'real' thing doesn't solve any problems or bring any innovation to the table. Perhaps it'll prevent you from having store or carry a bunch of books, but that's about it. Good luck jotting down notes in them too...

Instead, the content released for on eBook platforms should be adapted or created so that they are naturally suited to be used in an electronic format. Only then will it ever be practical to own one.

For some reason, YouTube pooched the "video" in Steve's OP above. This link:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mbh4Fdnv-s0&fmt=18

will give you the "video" as a proper video and not just that stuttery jittery excuse for a video from the original link.

I've been in the market recently for an eBook reader and just last night (around 1AM Pacific time) found information about this HP dual panel eBook reader. Interesting idea, but I still say the panels are too small. The bezel size is ridiculous on these things.

And then there's the ridiculous prices too... geez. :)

Someday we'll have a proper eBook reader without DRM, without proprietary formats (SONY ARE YOU LISTENING?!?!?!) that can just read any old PDF/TXT/DOC/RTF/whatever file you drag and drop on the device, done. But that's not anytime soon unfortunately.

Bleh.

Then there is the idea of conserving paper, but a lot of people seem to miss that, I don't know why.

Hemp could solve that problem.

Nothing like coming home from a long day at work, getting a good book and dropping a steamer. Love books.

I guess you could argue that; though most people won't even think about it.

Paper is easily recyclable or combustible. It also doesn't need electricity to work and there is virtually no risk of toxic chemicals entering our landfill if a book gets tossed in the trash. I'm not sure about how toxic the manufacturing processes compare; though most people won't even think about the environmental impact of manufacturing.

I have never read on an e-book reader but I think this is a good idea. Only problem I see is that this would be 2x as expensive as the current generation (around $500 with one screen).

Also, the guy in the video has one of the most irritating voices I have ever heard. He enunciates way too much. "Con-ve-ni-ent and er-go-nom-ic" *shudder*
