Dual display 3D?

I have a BFG Tech 5900XT, and I have two monitors hooked up, one to the DVI, and one to the VGA output. I use this setup for many purposes, and I want to now set up my 3D games (UT2004, DOOM3, etc.) to spread the 3D goodness to both the monitors. I have set the two monitors up in Horizontal spread mode, and all other windows will maximize to both displays, but when I start UT, it only shows up on one monitor.

Is there a way to accomplish this?

not that im aware of m8. I too tried this with UT 2004, and it would take over either both monitors with the same picture, or my extended desktop would be on one screen and UT on the other. I think thats something that would have to be coded into the game, so that it can split it up over 2 monitors. Either that or you would have to find a way to manually specifiy a resolution. by this i mean.

IF one screen runs at 1600x1200 and so does the other, then you would have to change the res to either 3200x1200 or 1600x2400 (sorry not sure which is vertical/horizontal (can someone clarify?))

might look like crap like that tho....

or if it lets you choose an aspect ratio of 16:9

1600 X 1200 is 1600 pixels wide and 1200 high, so two would be 3200 X 1200. The problem is that the game would have to be written to take advantage of the dual-monitor resolutions, and very few are. Most people who have tried it go back to gaming on one monitor, because the gap in the middle is such a problem. Flight Sim 2004 does it, and you can open different windows, stretch them across the screen, or put your flight view on one and all the controls on another...pretty slick. If there are any game developers out there, PLEASE make a FPS so that I can play on one monitor, and have all my other information...guns, ammo, armor, health etc. on the other!
And a map!

just yesterday i got my 2nd samsung 712N 17" lcd panel. i had dual monitors before (a 19" and a 17") but went back to one cause a crt and an lcd just looks stupid to me. anyway, on the subject... there are a few games that can be strecthed across: q3a doom 3 can be but they have to be set that way in the config file (look for the variables "customheight" and "customwidth"). Far Cry has really good native support for dual mon's, just set the res in the options. UT2004 can do it too, you just have to window the app and stretch the window across both monitors. Other than that, I use the 2nd monitor a lot when playin' MMORPG's (UO, EQ, FFXI, etc.)... i window the game but stretch it to take up one monitor and then have maps and info pages (like castersrealm) open on the other.

Dude Unreal Tournament 2004 and/or Half Life 2 Deathmatch would be freakin sweet on two monitors. Your width of vision would be huge!

Someday after I get my first job in MIS I want to buy a 42 inch plasma TV that I can play PC games on.

Thanks for all the help! All this time, I was thinking 'full-screen mode', and that was the problem. Full-screen is singular -- one screen -- FULL, but still just one. Once I got out of that mode, config-filing the custom res values to the games was rather simple.

Now I really have to get a capable 2nd vid card. I have, as my second card an ooooooold Imagine 128. That's 128bit graphics processing, not 128 MB.

I got Q3A working on two of my three monitors, but I went cross-eyed trying to eliminate the gap in the two monitors.

Anyways, Thanks!

Even with the power to run it, I think 2 monitors would kinds suck for a FPS. Now, three monitors would work for me. Think about it. (as in, where would your crosshair be with two monitors?)

In the meantime, I'm seriously considering the Dell 2005FP widescreen. In any case, I usually tweak the default FOV for most games. I bump up UT2004 by 5 or 10, and in Battlefield I edit the .con file to about 1.2 (from 1).
