Dual Core Xeon?

Does anyone know if Intel plans to make a dual core Xeon or some proc to compete with AMD's offering? There was a great deal on dell for a dual xeon workstation for under 1k, and I just wondered what the future might bring.

i think intel like amd is going to move everything to dual eventually, this may include the xeon

but the actual thing is if intel does make a dual core xeon will it be compatiable with the current xeon socket or chipsets, more than likely not
