AM2 I'm guessing isn't the same as 939 I have a 3000+ at 2.6GHz would I notice much of a difference from a X2 Manchester 2.0?

depends on what you do. most people seem to feel like the comptuer is much faster, as i did. Dual core is the way to go.

I went from a P4 2.4C to a Athlon 3000+ and noticed a difference, because the 2.4C had hyperthreading... It just felt smoother. I promptly upgraded to a 3800+ X2 and haven't regretted it at all.

Multitasking feels so much smoother.

its really good for encoding divx and decoding DVDs it cuts your time in half

yeah but AM2 is good because of AMDs future chips... but yes conroe is the way to go if you want to buy a new mobo, ram and CPU, if you stay with 939 its just a CPU and AM2 is all three again.

I agree with you, but some people like AMD and not Intel, i know myself and i just built my PC and i am going to change out all my parts... buy a new CPU and chipset block, new mobo, cpu and ram for some perfomance in superpi

I know they encode and decode amazingly fast but still I dont have alot of money.. so i went from a opteron 144 to a 3800+ X2 939 toledo core and make it do 2.6.. with my 36gb raptor and 2gb of DDR500 ram I think my system is still good. Maybe not the best as it once was close to being, opteron 144 @3.0 with 2 GB ram... and a 7800gtx a year and a half ago.

but still i like my PC and dont have the money to completely change out, like many of us...
