Are quadcore processors not as fast in non-threaded games as dualcore procs? I remember hearing at one point that quad processors weren't worth it at the time because of the lack of multi-threaded games and the fact that dualcore processors were faster in most games...

not many. but quad core will outperform the dual core in most everything else.....
Not too many right now, but it's more like what's coming. We're hoping software is heading in that direction, multithreaded, as opposed to being completely singled threaded.
Anyway, MHz doesn't really make a huge difference with the Core architecture, so personally I wouldn't worry about it too much. It kind of speaks for itself in the benches, but all this stuff is relative.
