Dual core performance?

When is dual core going to make a difference in games, and should I upgrade to a dual core now even though the performance gain is in the future?
 
Well most people do more then just gaming alone with their PC and in a lot of areas a dual core processor does make a very noticeable difference, especially for multitasking. Who knows when games will start taking full advantage of using multiple threads but i'm sure they will start making use of the extra core somewhat since more and more PC's being shipped are dual core now. With a dual core processor you're also able to leave certain tasks running in the background and not have to worry as much about it degrading your performance. Thats something most benchmarks dont show.
 
if you play any games like Call of duty 2, etc... those games are writte for dual core. They can add more characters etc... spice the game up a little more. You can go dual core (i think we'd all agree to go Core 2 duo once it comes out july 23rd)
 
AFAIK only quake 4 shows significal boost and there are some multithreaded tweaks for oblivion.
