so i'm having a problem getting the console version to run. i set up two instances of f@h, with ids 1 and 2. setup goes well but then it cant connect to work server. ?

maybe it has something to do with the server? 171.64.122.112
It connects to that server and loads the queue successfully, but shortly after it says couldnt send http request to server.

Server .112 has been set-aside specifically for slower computers. The problem is way too many people are requesting timeless due do too the really messed up points system currently in place. Server .112 is completely overloaded as a result of all this.

A few days ago I addressed this on the folding community forum and what I gave you above came directly from V. J.

Many others jumped on my point and made it clear that Stanford needs to address the assignment server issues to more properly allocate work to the computers best suited for the job.

V.J. has acknowledged this as a real problem and he and the crew at Stanford actually seem to want to fix this issue. Time will tell. Look for a version 6.0 of the folding program soon, which addresses many of our issues.

In the meantime anyone requesting small work units just to up the points count, well, it’s only one server and it’s getting killed. If you have a faster machine you should probably reconfigure to not ask for small WU’S just to be fair to those with older slower machines.

Hope this helps a bit.

My understanding is that requesting the timeless WU will allow for one thread to utilize the SSE instructions while the timeless cores do not. So as to not "steal" the boost away from the main thread. I can see turning off things like batching will help with this, but how will people using HT designate these "SSE-less" cores to be run without them taking that instruction set away from the standard or BigWU thread?

BTW, Dual Cores have a set of boost instructions on each core. No need to run the timeless on a dual core system. I do two regular cores without the Big WU flag on them and it runs fine. Any other recomended configs?

I haven't been able to get timeless units to work at all lately. Definately not a setup issue on your part/side.

well my processor is fast enough, being a core duo 2ghz. the reason I setup for timeless units was because its on my laptop and there will be a lot of time when it is off or a lot of time when i will disable f@home because i'll be working with cpu intense graphic programs. how long is a deadline usually?

Everything you need to know about each work unit:

I realize timeless will give many a points boost, but until Stanford addresses this one server thing it will cost you points when the server (timeless) goes down, which at the current levels everyone is pulling from it will be quite often.

Luck and have fun folding ;)

Well I'm not doing it for the points. I guess by looking at that chart it seems only a few are under 10 days, most being over 20 days. I'm sure that I can fold a WU in 10 days most of the time.

usually unless you are running them on something under 1ghz. and thats jus tthe prefered time...you still get credit going over the prefered time...not the final deadline though

Yes, I doubt you will have a problem running regular units.

In all reality, most of the normal/big WU's will be done in a day to day in a half running full tilt. Really the only ones that would need to be worried about are some of the new batch of Gromacs type WU's which are taking 2+ days, but even with a couple of hour downtimes, you should still drop in well within the time limit. :D
