Dual Core and DVD Encoding

Does anyone know of a good free DVD encoder that takes advantage of two cores. Apparently Nero does not(not free, but came with my burner). I am basically getting about the same times with my E4500 as I am with my old P4 640 minus a couple minutes.

Also, are there anymore must have multi-threaded apps I should know about?
