When running my system in 333FSB, my system is suddenly turning off when stressed, usually with 3D apps/games. I tested my memory systematically and I seem to have dual channel errors.
* AMD XP2600+ Barton CPU
* 3x 256MB PC2700 Crucial RAM.
* Asus A7N8X Deluxe mobo (v1.04). BIOS 1008.
My test procedures:
- I ran each of my 3x RAM sticks individually in each slot. No errors in all cases. Conclusion: RAM is good. Slots are good.
- I ran 2x RAM sticks at a time in Slot1 & Slot2 (so it's single channel) and I got no errors. I alternated the sticks in this config, no errors in all cases. Conclusion: RAM is good. Single channel memory system is good.
- I ran 2x RAM sticks in Slot1 & Slot3 and I'm getting errors (40+) in LRAND & Strike6. Conclusion: RAM is good. Dual channel memory is bad.
So, it seems dual channel is failing at 333FSB. Should my conclusion be: bad motherboard? Send it in for warranty replacement? When I run at 266FSB, I get no errors. But I paid for 333FSB, not 266FSB.
Is there a diagnostic tool to check the motherboard? Has anyone had this problem? Advice?
thanks
