Ok, so I am running WinXP Pro and it's time for a format, want to dual boot with Ubuntu. I have onboard audio disabled in BIOS to free up resources and have X-Fi xtremeMusic installed and running. There is no X-Fi support for Linux. Should I run X-Fi and onboard? If so, how could I temp "disable" it to free up resources while playing BF2? Would selecting the X-Fi as the audio renderer free the onboard from using resources? Any suggestions?

You should be able to run both as long as they don't conflict. I know lost of guys running multiple soundcards. Your gaming audio will go to whatever soundcard you have set as the default soundcard in the control panel. I wouldn't really worry about turing it off and on all the time unless you notice it is interfering with something and needs to be disabled.
