I'm wondering why none of the AMD/ATI partners, or AMD/ATI themselves, never made a dual 5770 card like the 5970? I think that would of been a sweet card!!!
i guess I just thought they could of made for people with only one PCI-E slot or for dual PCI-E to go quad CFX.
Would have been pure genius. The probably didn't do it because it would have hurt sales of the HD5800 series.
They didin't do it because CF 5770's and a 5870 are neck and neck.
If the card was priced at $249.99 it would have killed the HD5870.
If the card was priced at $249.99 it would have killed the HD5870.
Amd would never do that because it's a stupid idea.
Looks like the best deal is to get 2 HD5770s for much less than a HD5870 and run them in Xfire.![]()
If your 5770's knew that you wanted to swap them out for gtx460's they'd be pissed.
Not always. Sometimes X-fire actually scales better than a single card. Case-in point Fallout 3.They didin't do it because CF 5770's and a 5870 are neck and neck.
Not exactly. Like others have said, it's always better to get a single card. Plus, AMD wouldn't try to out-do themselves. If the card was priced at $249.99 it would have killed the HD5870.
Only for boinc crowd. Any gamer with at least a bit of common sense would rather buy 5850.
Likely do to the additional PCI-e bandwidth available by splitting them up?
Dunno about that. 2x5770 usually performs as well or better than a single 5870 even though added all up they are the same spec. Likely do to the additional PCI-e bandwidth available by splitting them up? Regardless 2x5770 isn't a bad choice over a 5850 even if it microstutters.
Yeah AMD isn't crazy enough to cannibalize its own sales like that. A 5770x2 card would be priced like a HD5870 to prevent that from happening, but then that would defeat the purpose of a 5770x2 in the first place.
Why would you bother with microstuttering and not always perfect multi-gpu gaming for few frames more over always working single card?
I've heard that the tessellation engine in all the HD5xxx series are the same. If that is the case, wouldn't two 5770's outperform a single 5870 in games that use high tessellation?
I'm not saying that AMD is stupid for not doing dual 5770, just talking about one of the things occupying my little brain.
